Eligibility for Chemistry
Acceptable Chemistry department degrees include MSc or equivalent in Chemistry, Physics, Applied Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Biochemistry; certain BTech chemical/polymer degrees; and four-year BS degrees in Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, Physics or Physical Sciences. A standard three-year BSc Chemistry alone is not listed as direct-entry eligibility.
Master’s candidates normally need 60% or CGPA 6.0 (55% or 5.5 for SC/ST/PwD) plus a relevant national examination such as CSIR-NET, UGC-NET or GATE, or a national fellowship. Four-year bachelor’s candidates normally need 75% or CGPA 7.5 and a qualifying national test. Specific IIT and Ministry of Education-funded institute exemptions are described in the brochure. Final-year applicants must finish degree requirements before registration.
