Eligibility for Chemistry PhD
The official department notice requires at least 60% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA in a master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology or another equivalent science discipline. The stated minimum is 55% for SC, ST and PwD/VH candidates. Accepted equivalent qualifications listed by the institute also include integrated BS–MS and certain BE/BTech, BPharm, ME/MTech and MPharm degrees, subject to the stated academic standard.
In addition, a valid CSIR-JRF or UGC-JRF qualification is mandatory under the department’s January 2027 notice. The score/fellowship must remain valid at least until admission. Applicants awaiting final qualifying-degree results may apply, but any offer is provisional until the requirements are met.
