Which Chemistry Departments Are Participating?
The official mid-year notice includes Inorganic and Physical Chemistry (IP), Organic Chemistry (OC), Solid State and Structural Chemistry (SS), and Materials Research (MR). Other interdisciplinary units may also be relevant depending on your qualification and research interests. Review the specific department eligibility before selecting a unit.
Eligibility for MSc Chemistry and BSc Chemistry Candidates
Under the regular PhD entry table, a master’s degree in science generally requires a valid GATE score or NET JRF; a four-year BSc route also requires valid GATE/NET JRF. Other qualifying-degree routes have different conditions. The notice specifies that NET lectureship-only and NET Category II/III qualifications are not eligible under its NET JRF entry mode.
The minimum class is generally second class or equivalent, subject to specific rules and category relaxations. The department-wise IISc research programme eligibility page lists which qualifications each unit accepts. For example, Organic Chemistry accepts certain science master’s degrees with Chemistry studied at bachelor level, or a four-year BSc with Chemistry as major. Applicants completing qualifying-degree requirements by 1 January 2027 may apply under the notice’s documentation conditions.
Application Fee
| Category | Official application fee |
|---|---|
| General / OBC / EWS | ₹800 |
| SC / ST / PwD | ₹400 |
| External Registration Programme (ERP), all categories | ₹2,000 |
The fee is non-refundable; payment-gateway charges, if applicable, are additional. The fees above are from the domestic mid-year admission notice, not the separate international application process.
