Eligibility for IIT Bombay PhD Chemistry
The Chemistry section of IIT Bombay’s 2026–27 PhD brochure specifies first class or at least 60% marks in the qualifying degree (55% for SC/ST), for an MSc or equivalent degree in Chemistry or allied fields such as Physics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Materials Science. Other qualifications may be considered for particular faculty projects. General institute requirements also apply, including appropriate national examination qualification or another accepted route listed in the brochure. Do not assume that a CSIR NET or GATE score alone guarantees admission; academic-unit screening and the selected admission category matter.
The Department lists research in synthetic organic chemistry, coordination and organometallic chemistry, catalysis, electrochemistry, polymers, spectroscopy, biophysical chemistry and theoretical/computational chemistry. Review the Chemistry PhD admissions page for department-specific notices.
